Erika Brown

Hi, welcome! I’m Erika Brown, a Registered Dietitian living in Edmonton, Alberta.

I started blogging to help people find clarity in a world full of false claims and fad diets. I’m still amazed by how much confusion there is around food. All the time, I meet someone who hasn’t eaten a banana in years because they were told they are “fattening” or someone concerned about their weight, but was told to add butter to their daily coffee for it’s “health benefits.”

People are looking for answers, but are left with only more questions. My goal is to provide accurate, evidence-based nutrition information, without the hype or contradictions that lead to all this confusion.

I believe understanding where your food comes from and maintaining food skills are crucial to our health and happiness. I was blessed to grow up with a mother who could whip anything up from scratch, had an impressive garden and knew a million ways to make the most of her food dollar. It’s thanks to her that I see cooking as not only the key ingredient in good health, but also as the ultimate connection to our food, families and communities.

I believe strongly in whole foods. Food, after all, is more than just the sum of its parts—and that it is not only what we eat, but also how and why we eat, that ultimately shapes our health.

I admit: I love grocery shopping, meal planning and spending countless hours in the kitchen. But I also realize that most people have a million other things they’d rather do instead. So if you don’t love price hunting or experimenting with new recipes, that’s perfectly okay! If you’re looking to boost your health, eat better on a budget or to fuel your inspiration for the healthy choices you’re already making, this blog is for you.

So join me on this journey, and together we can fall back in love with food, one bite at a time.erikabrown
